And The Beads Did Fly!

What started out to be a usual trip to Schuss Mountain, turned into one of the wilder trips. At least that Iíve been on. While we may not have had an'Ultimate Babe' or an 'Ultimate Club' title, there were definitely a lot of 'firsts' on the trip that made it exciting. And definitely some 'seconds', but we won't go into that. Just ask Teri what she did on the bus ride home two years ago.

For the first time, we shared the bus with Oak Park Ski Club. It was a fun group, more so on the ride back. And we have made a nice bond with the club. A new found friend.

We took off in warm Chicago temperatures, but the forecast was hopeful for Michigan. Saturday morning, we got up to warm, gray skies. Shortly after the first event, the skies decided to send some sprinkles our way. Thankfully, the penguin race was up next, and we all received the new fashion apparel of a hefty bag. We had several end up in the finals, but no medalists. The weather decided to agree with us as the Friars ran their usual event, the Obstacle Course. But the rain came back just in time for the Costume Contest, and didn't stop for the rest of the day. Not wanting to brave the elements, John and Glenn stayed indoors, and did their part in collecting the prized tokens.

Then, to our dismay, the winds blew up. And shortly, the temperatures dropped, turning our wind and rain into a whiteout. We all had to abandon the banquet early, as the roads and nearby airport were being closed, and only one or two shuttles were left. But we all, eventually made it back to Schuss safe and sound.

The winds did not let up the next day, and the resort could not open the lifts. The Carnival Committee quickly put their heads together, and made up a couple of games, hoping to avoid a riot or restless people. The wind quieted in the afternoon, and the Slush Cup went off without a hitch. Even Teri and Darcy made it across the Slush Cup pond for the first time with flying colors, and no swimming!

We had a wonderful trip, despite the weather, and I want to thank each and every one of you for your participation in dethroning the Wild Bunch. Although we didn't do a good job at finishing the Jell-O shots. But I think that's because we didn't have the gallant efforts of Dale, Mike, or Barry on the trip up and back. Next year!
